Feminism can be tricky to talk about in Asia. Here, interpretations of the “good woman” (perhaps she is submissive, domestically skilled, demure, beautiful) also coexist alongside established cultures of matriarchy, “third genders”, independence, and warriorhood. How can Asian feminist dynamics influence the improv world?
Intentional scene work may be one area we could explore feminism - but we also hope to look offstage, exploring female-led or non-binary-led structures. In this panel / open dialogue with attendees, we welcome dialogue about what feminist improv could look like in Asia.
