Move over, Chicago! Improv in Asia is Asian.
As the improv scene has grown in Asia over the last decade, we are now at a stage where we start to ask ourselves, How does our cultural identity show up in our shows? What sets us apart from improv found in other regions? And, where do we go from here?
Come join us for a morning coffee as we have an open and honest discussion on what it means to be doing improv in Asia.
Getting his start in the UK, Timothy longed for teammates that he could connect with culturally (it did not help that he was the only Asian on his team). Timothy then moved back to Singapore in 2014 where he has been coaching improv for the past ten years. During his time coaching, he has noticed differences in the way Asian students approach improv as compared to non-Asian students and it has fascinated him.
Timothy hopes to use this platform to continue a conversation and movement started by Aih Mendoza, who has greatly inspired him.
