Improvisers like to think with their heads - and often forget about thinking with the body. Let's discover the movement within... using physical work from a variety of Asian and Western disciplines. This workshop's objective is to shake off years of office culture conditioning, the racing thoughts of half-paying attention, and tapping into our more animal, natural selves instead.
Annie is a Singapore-based theatre practioner by night and researcher by day, and is working on marrying the two selves! Improvising for over 10 years, she loves working with movement and narrative. Recently, she's been focused on interdisciplinary approaches (using tech, visual arts, and traditional and contemporary Asian practices) to develop improv shows and expanded ways of thinking. She's been found onstage at festivals in China, Australia, France, and the Philippines, and most recently was Co-Artistic Director of the Singapore Improv Festival 2024.
A trained stage actor, she has performed with some of Singapore's leading theatre companies, and more recently started to develop as a playwright - with works staged at The Wright Stuff Festival 2023 and with Sightlines in 2024-5. She is also an experienced corporate trainer and has facilitated workshops for clients in the government and private sectors. As an improv teacher, she loves drawing from all kinds of art forms and finds deep satisfaction in helping others experience the feeling of joyful, provocative inspiration.
Open to all bodies and experience levels, no prior movement experience is needed. Come with comfy clothes you can move around in.
