ABSTRACT & ABSURD

Have you experienced slices of life that live in the abstract, made of images, movements, emotions, and ideas, or in the absurd, where strange logic exists in a strange world, yet still feel strangely true, grounded, and make sense? 

ABSTRACT & ABSURD is a course about stepping beyond realism and embracing the poetic, the illogical, and the surreal.

Over 8 weeks, you will work on these ideas through Pretty Flower, a long-form format that opens doors to explore the strange, the fragmented, and the unexpected. Together, we will learn how to create meaning without relying on linear stories, how to commit to bizarre premises, and how to find freedom in nonsense.

What’s inside ABSTRACT & ABSURD?

• ABSTRACT PLAY: Experiment with shapes, rhythm, silence, and imagery to build scenes that speak more through feeling than words.

• ABSURD WORLDS: Learn to heighten illogical situations and commit to ridiculous realities that reveal surprising truths.

• FINDING MEANING: Discover how abstract and absurd choices can still resonate emotionally and thematically with the audience.

• TRUSTING THE UNKNOWN: Practice letting go of the logical sense of control, and instead build confidence in exploring the weird and unexpected together.

★★★ This course is designed for improvisers who have finished all 3 level ★★ courses at The Improv Hub or equivalent to a minimum of 1 year of experience. English is the main language to be used for instruction and discussion in class.
