WHY RELATIONSHIPS MATTER

In Chinese culture, we often find ourselves somehow related. Aunty this, uncle that, grandma this, brother that. It often confuses foreigners because most of the time, you're not even related by blood. Yet, it is this practice that makes us understand and build a tight community. This often bleeds into our scenes in Asia, where we see many scenes weaving a tapestry of relationships into the stories we tell. 

In this workshop, we will focus on why relationships matter in the scene and how to dive deep quickly into the meat of a relationship to make your audience feel a sense of kindred spirits. 

Through a blend of Chinese theatre exercises and improv exercises, we will work through drawing the guanxi between us and our characters and between the characters and the world created.

VOICE AND BREATHING FOR NON-SINGING ACTORS

This is a practical workshop designed for those who want to explore their voice beyond spoken text.

Through breathwork, grounding techniques, and sound-based exercises, participants will discover how breath supports presence, emotional range, and vocal confidence, even without formal singing experience.

We focus on freeing the voice as a tool for expression.

I've been DJ-ing a lot of improv shows; it's like show management, and then I go straight to scoring improv games and scenes with the same tech.

My live scoring has been accompanied by a soundboard app called Launchpad. There is a free version. I am not sponsored by the app, but for improv, it has been amazing.

MAGICAL REALISM

This workshop invites participants to improvise from a place where the ordinary meets the extraordinary. Through narrative play, we will discover how everyday moments can open portals to the magical, poetic, and mythic. 

Inspired by Colombian magical realism, participants will explore how to craft scenes and stories where emotion becomes landscape, memory carries texture, and the impossible feels deeply human and real. 

ENSEMBLE WORK, REHEARSALS & PERFORMANCES

The second weekend shifts from individual exploration to ensemble practice. Drawing from observations and discoveries made in the first weekend, the four artists guide rehearsals that connect relationships, voice, music, and narrative into cohesive performance work.

Participants move between rehearsal and run-throughs, refining how the ensemble listens, responds, and performs together.
